Would You Open the Door?

Many people today would not open their door if someone was knocking. Not all front doors have a window in them. Doors in Bible times did not have windows.  But Jesus does make us a promise.

Revelation 3:20 Here I am! I stand at the door and knock.

If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in.

I saw a picture a couple days ago that had Jesus knocking on a door that did not have a door knob on the outside. There was no way to open the door from outside, so the only way to get in was if someone would open the door.  Oh what a message that picture gives.

The Apostle John’s words and that picture illustrate the kindness of Jesus. He gently knocks on the door of our hearts with His offer of peace. Jesus stands and patiently waits for us to respond. He does not open the door Himself and force His way into our lives. He does not impose His will on ours. Instead, He offers to all people the gift of salvation and light to guide us, if we open the door.

To anyone who opens the door, He promises to enter. There are no other requirements or prerequisites.

In the book of Revelations and in each of the Gospels Jesus uses the words, “He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.”  In each instance in which those words were used is surely a desire that we heed the warnings and message that we are given.  You wonder why SO MANY people chose to NOT get on the ark after Noah preached to them for over 100 years, didn’t they all have ears?

If you hear the voice of Jesus and His gentle knock on the door of your heart, be encouraged that He patiently waits for you and will enter if you welcome Him in.  In Luke 19:10 it states that Jesus came to seek and to save the lost.

The bottom line is this; In a sermon this morning the Pastor told it like it is. There is ultimately only two choices, all people who have ever lived, past, present, and future; will either be going to Heaven or hell.  There is no in between, no 2nd chances, no do-overs, and God does not grade on a curve.  It states in Revelation that His judgement will be His Word. The destination of all souls will be based on the Word of God.  All will be judged on how they have kept the Words that were written to us.

That said, we are all lost souls!   But Wait………………1 John 1:9, "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness."   Yes, God did plan our redemption before the foundations of the world that we might believe and be saved.  BUT, we have to be able to hear that soft quiet knock on the door of our heart, and secondly, we need to open that door and let Him in.
