Watered Down Preaching

There are many people today that are victims of a watered down Gospel, easy listening sermons that don’t offend anyone.  Churches and Pastors today are searching for more congregants.  They need more Sunday pew covering to pay the bills.  In an effort to gain more and loose less, many pastors are preaching words that do not offend.  Many are preaching a feel good type of sermon.  Many sermons are no longer the whole Bible message but instead warm fuzzy words.

“The time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires,

because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers;

and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables” (2 Timothy 4:3, 4).

When we sugar-coat the Word of God to not offend existing members, or to add more new members, we do not do them any favors.  When sin is not addressed by the Pastor, than there is no importance on repentance and without repentance there is no hope for life everlasting.  It doesn’t matter who we are, how good we think we have lived our lives, or how small we think our sins are, we have to deal with each sin.  An undiluted gospel is going to involve real repentance for sin, a sorrow for sin, and a turning away from it. When there is preaching that doesn’t include all of the truth, or maybe adding something to the verse to makes it easier to hear, than that is diluted teaching.  The Bible is very clear about adding to or taking words away from those God breathed words.

I love the church we are attending now because the Pastor’s sermons each week are just like a Bible study, verse by verse, from book to book.  He preaches exactly what is written and relates it to how we are to live today.  When a passage comes up that is an ugly old sin he doesn’t skip over it, he makes it a part of the sermon.  Along with the assurance that if we have repented of our sins that Jesus has promised to cleanse us of those sins and remember them no more.  He died on the cross and rose from the dead to save you and me.

The newest movement that is currently gaining traction has unbiblical ideas.  I don’t disagree with everyone getting along; after all, we should be practicing that to prepare for eternity where only those who can get along will be present.  But, all people should get along with the understanding that each has a right to believe and worship the religion of their choice.  And if the Religion that someone has followed all of their life decides to accept a belief that is not Biblical, you should run for the exit and get to a church that follows the Whole Bible.  We shouldn't compromise!
