The Measure of

God’s Forgiveness

The true measure of God’s forgiveness is without measure!  So in Ephesians 1:7 where it is written, "The forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace," would indicate that our mortal minds couldn’t possibly imagine at what point does the Grace of God and His forgiveness stop…..it doesn’t!

One of God’s attributes is that He is Omniscient.  He knows everything possible, past, present and yet to happen.   "For I know the things that come into your mind, every one of them" (Ezek. 11:5).  The perfect knowledge of God is proven and documented in every prophecy recorded in the Bible. In the Old Testament you can find scores of predictions concerning the history of Israel, which were fulfilled to their smallest detail, centuries after they were made.

So when we see in Ephesians 1:4 that we were chosen before the creation of the world, it confirms that God already had a plan for the redemption of mankind.  He foreknew the entire story, and already had the plan in place long before He hung the stars in the sky!  That has to be the ultimate example of Love, knowing that the species you were going to create would fall to sin and to save them you would send your only Son as a sacrifice.  So the attribute of God’s love is truly beyond measure.

As you read about God’s attributes and refer back to stories in the Bible you begin to realize that everything that points to God, or refers to God, you start to understand that they are all beyond measure, there is no limit to anything of God.  That surely includes Grace and Forgiveness too.

Look at the story of the prodigal son who after he had spent his inheritance on foolish, sinful living thought to himself that the servants in his father’s house are better off than he was.  So he decided to go back home and beg to be hired on as a servant.  But while he was still far off his father seen him and ran out to welcome him home, and did not make him a servant but a celebrated son that had returned!  This story best describes the immeasurable forgiveness that a loving God has for any sinner that truly repents and turns from their evil past.

Knowing that all of the attributes of God are far more than we can imagine, we begin to understand that His Grace is abundant, His Mercy is renewed daily, and our sins are washed away, “for mine own sake,” says God, “I will forgive you.”    And He will remember their sin no more!
