Choose Today

Whom You Will Serve

It compels every person, still on this side of the ground, to ask themselves, what does eternal life mean to me?  We will need to understand what happens after death, is it all over at that point?  Or is the Bible correct in saying that each and every person will spend an eternity somewhere?   If we come to grips with the truth of the Bible we will than understand that there will only be two choices.

In Matthew 7:13, 14 we see those two choices, Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.  The road to destruction has to be wide for all of the worldly pleasures that seem to trip up so many, the narrow road to life is narrow because every weight, burden, every sin that so easily besets us, must be laid aside.

The good news though is that the narrow road and narrow gate are ours for the asking, how simple is that?  The very popular verse, John 3:16 tells us that our sin debt has been paid and we are free.  But do you know how many people in the world don’t know they still need to make a choice?  The ball is still in our court, we have to choose.  That famous verse states, For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

When we analyze that verse we have to see that Jesus loves us unconditionally.  Insignificant me and insignificant you and all the small and large, rich and poor, white or black, insignificant whosoever’s, Jesus shed His blood to insure our walk through the narrow gate.  BUT, beyond the whosoever, we need to read the next word, believeth.  That is where we need to make our choice; we need to believe in the work that Jesus did on the cross, His death and resurrection, which cleansed us from our sins.  Our belief and faith in Him who died for our sins, will put us on the road to eternal life.

The verse states that we need to choose today, because no one is promised tomorrow.  God has given everyone a certain number of heartbeats and none of us knows how many we each have.  Our next minute is an uncertainty!  Think of all those passengers on that Malaysia flight that went into the Ocean, how many of them weren’t ready to meet their maker?  As the thief on the cross next to Jesus was told that He would be with Jesus in Paradise, we to can have that assurance when we put our trust in Jesus.
