Who is Jesus?

Besides our Redeemer

When you read the Gospel of John you will understand who Jesus was and is.  John's opening statement is; 1. In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made.  4 In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. 5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.

From the book of Genesis we read that when God created the world that we live in, He did it with His Word.  Everything that He created was spoken into existence.  John also goes on in verse 14, that the Word became flesh and dwelt among us.   For Christian Believers, acceptance of Jesus as the Messiah, the Son of God, is central to our Faith.

When you try to imagine who God is, you absolutely cannot wrap your mind around a Supreme being that has existed from, 'forever ago' and will exist until 'forever from now'!  But it says in the Book of John that the Word became flesh!  So this Supreme Being that we cannot even comprehend came to us in the flesh, Emmanuel which means, God with us.

Later in John in the 10 chapter, verse 29 Jesus says; My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all; no one can snatch them out of my Father’s hand. 30 I and the Father are one.”  And in Colossians 2:9 For in Christ all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form.  God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners.    Romans 5:8

I've often wondered why the Jewish leaders and the Pharisee's didn't see who Jesus was, from what He preached, how He spoke and the miracles that He did.  They were experts on the scriptures, so they thought.  Why did they insist on killing him on the cross?  They had access to the Old Testament writings some 300 years prior to the birth of Christ, Isaiah 9:6.  But, the inspired Word of God had all of these events already written many hundreds of years ago, they had to be fulfilled.

When you think about this Ultimate power of the universe, the God that holds everyone in the palms of His hands, coming to earth in human form, to pay our price for our sins, you just have to realize that our God is all about Love.   As Jesus walked on this earth and ministered, He too taught of Love.

Jesus said, "I am the resurrection and the life. Those who believe in me, even though they die like everyone else, will live again. They are given eternal life for believing in me and will never perish."   John 11:25-26
