Talking With God

Your Prayer Time

In a poll I saw recently concerning prayer, it asked, “How often do you pray?”  The results for “More than once a day” were, Christians 69%, and for “Once a day or less”, 16%.   The poll also went on to list the most often prayed for topics, 93% of those polled prayed most for God’s Guidance.

Although it is great that 85% of Christians pray every day, it leaves about 15% that don’t communicate with their Creator very often.  Many people put off praying because they think they don’t know how to pray.  (The only way someone can learn how to pray, is to pray.)   The Holy Spirit will guide anyone that asks for anything that is within God’s will for their life.  I think it’s a pretty safe bet that a person’s request to learn how to pray, is totally within God’s plan.

The Bible has many stories about praying, in fact Jesus prayed for hours many times, and He was without sin!  He prayed to know the Fathers will and to stay in close connection with Him.  With such an example set for us in Scriptures, how much more should we sinners be praying?

In one of Jesus’s teachings about praying He says to not pray as the hypocrites do, standing in public where all can see, but to go to your room and close the door, and pray to your Father.  This doesn’t mean that you should never pray outside of your house, it just means to be humble and private, God will still hear you.  In fact a conversation with God can be carried on anytime, anyplace.  He hears silent prayers loud and clear.

He makes one Bible promise that resonates loud and clear when someone we love is hurting; “Again I say to you that if two of you agree on earth concerning anything that they ask, it will be done for them by My Father in heaven. For where two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there in the midst of them.” Matthew 18: 19-20  1 John 5:14 And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us.

The most important thing to remember in any prayer time is that Praise and Thanks should be included whenever you pray.
