"DISCERNMENT is NOT knowing the difference between RIGHT and WRONG.  It is knowing the difference between RIGHT and ALMOST RIGHT." Charles Spurgeon.  1 John 4:1, Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, for many false prophets have gone out into the world.  Jesus told of these trends that would precede His 2nd coming.  "Take heed that no man deceive you. For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many"   How will people know when they are being deceived?  The religious deceptions by the false prophets in the latter days, was specifically warned of by Jesus, warning that even the elect could be deceived. 

I think that this Charles Spurgeon had it right; deception is something that is barely wrong, slightly changed, almost right.  The Bible says that Satan is the father of lies, the great deceiver.  He is the master at luring churches, politicians, Presidents, governors and lawmakers away from the truths of the Bible to the cry of popular opinion.   He is sly enough to hide his hidden agenda of gay marriages into the package of Love your neighbor, everyone deserves the same civil rights, etc. 

If we want to walk on streets paved with gold for eternity we have to be able to know the difference between God’s word and the words from this world.  We have to know that God’s word is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow, it will never change.  He is not going to compromise.  He has told us everything we need to know to make it through our little short dot in history.   When you realize that just from Bible times to today, roughly 4 to 5 thousand years, our lives are so insignificant in the big picture, and to read that when we have Jesus as our Lord and Savior we are co-heirs with Him to the Kingdom of God!  That has to humble you quite a bit!
