Growing Spiritually

Spiritual growth in each person differs significantly.  But it is no different than anything else in life that you choose.  If it is something that interests you, you will focus, study, practice and read until you have become efficient at it, until you are satisfied that you are on top of it.  It seems as though nothing in life will come without any effort at all.

Spiritual growth is no different!  Well, there is one difference; I do believe that if a person is earnestly searching for spiritual growth, they will never stop growing!  On the other hand, if a person finds other things to occupy their time and does not look for spiritual growth, their growth will come to a halt.  That attitude invokes that free will that God has given all of us.  But, let’s not take that fork in the road.

At what point in a person’s life should they be concerned about spiritual growth?  (That’s a trick question)  Spiritual growth should begin when a person knows that they trust Jesus to be their Lord and Savior, and when they know that they are eternally lost without Him.  A person cannot grow spiritually when they have not repented of past sins and been forgiven.   The Bible does say that when we confess our sins God will do what He promised, forgiveness and eternal life in Jesus name.  That is the start of your spiritual growth.  It’s a lifelong journey with a promising end.

Your journey can be one that fits your schedule to start.  That way, if it is your schedule it will more than likely happen.  As you grow in your knowledge and you desire more in-depth info, you will be expanding your time spent.  These promptings to spend more time will be gentle nudging’s by the Holy Spirit that will lead you to what you want to and need to know.  The more I study and read the Bible I can see why it is called the living Word of God, the Words are as appropriate today as when they were written.  And to know that each word was inspired by God, makes it a personal message to each reader.

Aside from setting and keeping a regular devotion/study time, ask God to give you the wisdom to keep His Words in your heart and in your mind.  You will find that as you mature in your spiritual growth,  you will have more answers and understanding.
