The Olympics Are  Over

Oh, to be an Olympian and win that Gold Medal would truly be a lasting memory.  To be the best in your event is an Olympians dream.  BUT, you are re-tested and challenged every four years!  The Olympics is a good measure for athletes and shows how a dedicated training schedule and routine can pay off.

Those of us who are athletically challenged though can still win many crowns.  The Bible says that we are to be disciplined in our training so that we can win an eternal prize, the Victor’s crown, an incorruptible crown, for overcoming the many distractions and sins of this world, becoming new creations in Christ.  Our crown will not fade away and perish, but will be eternal.  1 Corinthians 9:25, Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last; but we do it to get a crown that will last forever.

There is not a first or second place in any of these crowns, for the reward is the same for all over-comers and believers, all will be rewarded.

There is also a Crown of Life that will be presented to those who patiently endure testing and temptation. Afterward they will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him, James 1:12, and in Revelation the Crown of Life is promised again, Don’t be afraid of what you are about to suffer. The devil will throw some of you into prison to test you. You will suffer for ten days. But if you remain faithful even when facing death, I will give you the crown of life.

If you are one who tells others about Christ and helps others know of God’s Love and Forgiveness, you will be given the Crown of Joy.  1 Thessalonians 2:19-20, For what is our hope, our joy, or the crown in which we will glory in the presence of our Lord Jesus when he comes? Is it not you?  20 Indeed, you are our glory and joy.

For those who live righteously in this world they will be given the Crown of Righteousness, 2 Timothy 4:7-8 I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.  Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day--and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing.  This is not about being good, it is about a determined mind to live with righteous behavior and an upright life.

The crown of Glory is for living the life God had planned for you.  1 Peter 5:4, And when the Chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the crown of glory that will never fade away.  Verse 2, Be shepherds of God's flock that is under your care.   Pastors are not the only Shepherds; we all have someone who we are to shepherd and care for.

So let’s not focus on the medals, prizes or honors in this life, but be determined to live the life that will be rewarded by God with one of His Eternal Crowns, in our Eternal life.
