God IS in Control

Every morning while I am having breakfast, (after my morning devotions), I usually turn on CNN or Fox news channel to get today’s 15 minutes of news.  I mainly just want to catch the latest top stories.  And that very short time in the morning is usually enough of what comes out of the news!  But lately with this virus thing going around it has been very interesting to see all of the chaos.

Many people are in dire straits, many businesses are in dire straits, and the economy will not be recovered for years and years to come.  BUT, there is one constant in the middle of this pandemic; God is in control.  Those who have faith in God can know that He is with us in this and will be with us through this.   The very nature of God is love. And love always seeks the good of the other. So God, who loves us, isn’t even capable of doing evil to us. It’s against His nature. All things work together for the good of those who love God (Romans 8:28).

You gotta’ believe that there was no disease or viruses in the Garden of Eden.  It was a perfect place, absolutely perfect.  Things didn’t go downhill until Satan deceived Eve and that is when everything was changed.  Paradise was now lost and we begin living in a fallen world.  Then it took Satan a few hundred years to totally corrupt the hearts of His entire population, except Noah and his family.

Following the flood it wasn’t more than a few hundred years until all the people started building the Tower of Babel.  They wanted to build a tower that reached to the Heavens so they could make a name for themselves, their pride got in the way of their plans.  They were not able to build it to the heavens, but they did accomplish ‘foreign languages’!   God stepped in and confused their languages and they were scattered throughout the earth.

Many of the Books of the Old Testament show where the Jews drifted away to worship other gods and suffered many self-inflicted punishments.  Of the 24 Kings that ruled over Israel, only 7 did what was right in the eyes of the Lord. All of the remaining Kings did what was evil in the eyes of the Lord.  All of these finally led to the Jews captivity to Babylon.  Although God is all loving and very patient with sinful man, He is Holy and sin has to be atoned.  The one main thing that the Bible does tell us about the many trials that God’s people brought upon themselves is that it always brought them to repentance.

As the Books of the Bible show, from Genesis to the very last verse in Revelation, God’s hand is guiding the events of history.  Any time His people turned to false gods and evil worship He intervened with drought, famine, locusts, captivity, whatever it would take to show His people that He is the one true God that brought them out of slavery and into the land of milk and honey.

So, it might be asked, is this Pandemic a punishment from God?  Or is it a result of living in a broken world?  We can’t possibly know the answer to that on this side of Heaven, but we can be assured that if we are Christians we can rest in the Rock Solid Hope that the God who is Creator, Sustainer,  and Redeemer will certainly hold on to his children throughout this life.
