Today His Mercy Calls Us

      In today’s service was an old Hymn that expresses God’s love for us, God’s desire that we return to Him.  Just three short verses that reinforce how much God welcomes us back.  Although the old Christian Hymns are not as upbeat, there are those that just get inside your head,   as though it was put in this service for me to hear and take in.

Today Your Mercy Calls Us     by; Oswald Allen

Today your mercy calls us, To wash away our sin.

However great our trespass, Whatever we have been,

However long from mercy Our hearts have turned away,

Your precious blood can wash us And make us clean today.

Today your gate is open, And all who enter in

Shall find a Father’s welcome And pardon for their sin.

The past shall be forgotten, A present joy be given,

A future grace be promised, A glorious crown in heaven.

Today our Father calls us; His Holy Spirit waits;

His blessed angels gather Around the heavenly gates.

No question will be asked us, How often we have come;

Although we oft have wandered, It is our Father’s home.

We don’t think about the mercy and grace of God often enough throughout any given day.  It is probably taken for granted, when it should be more cherished.  How often does it come to mind that, “While we were still sinners, Christ died for us”.   While we were steep in sin, God still loved us enough to die for us, so that we may live with Him.  Unfailing Love.

How often do we forget what is written in His Word?  They were written specifically for us, you and me, everyone who believes.  It says that, “I will forgive their iniquities, and remember their sins no more."   “He will cast all our sins into the depths of the sea.”  “He has removed our sins as far from us as the east is from the west.”

So like the song says, however great our sins are, however long our hearts were turned away, whatever we have been, He still loves us and is waiting for us to come back!  The past will be forgiven; the slate will be wiped clean.

Isn’t it amazing that we can go from condemned sinners to sons and daughters of God?   “Behold what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called sons of God.”  1John 3:1  “Now if we are children, then we are heirs--heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ.”  From enemy to heirs.

The love that God has for us is what grips our hearts and changes our lives and makes us different people, forgives our sins, lifts us up again, and encourages our hearts. It is the realization that God indeed loves us as He loves Jesus.
