Why Should We Study the Bible?

To start with, it is God’s word, written to us.  It is our opportunity to study this living word to better understand God’s plan or will for our lives.  Everything that you want to know about God is within those pages in the Bible.  From creation to the New World to come, His plan for saving mankind.

God wants us to read and study His word, 2Timothy 2:15 Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth.   John 8:32 "And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free."

The more you study God’s word, the more knowledge you will gain, 2 Timothy 3:16 All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.  We will know His truth and we will be able to recognize a lie when we hear one.  And the Bible does say that there will be many false prophets.

Studying God’s word will bring you closer to God, it is one of His promises, James 4:8 Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you.  In the Gospel of Luke there is a story where someone told Jesus that His mother and brothers were there to see Him and He stated, Luke 8:21 My mother and my brethren are these which hear the word of God, and do it.  Hearing the Word, reading the Word, studying the Word, however you get it into your mind and heart, will be pleasing to God.

The more that you can read and study God’s word; IT WILL develop a hunger for more.  The spirit will pull and guide you to more and more.  As you are encouraged to read and learn more, your knowledge of whom God is and What God wants will become very evident.  You will see that everything that God does is driven by Love for mankind, and His desire to save all mankind.  Your spiritual growth will flourish.
