How to Start Reading the Bible

Many people don’t put any importance on reading the Bible.  Without a focus or plan that includes Bible reading we don’t really know what the truths of the Bible are.  We leave ourselves open to other people’s opinions and beliefs.  If we do not know the words of our Lord we are at a disadvantage when false teaching comes our way.  According to the Bible, false teachers have been around since the times of the Bible, so how can we know what is true or what is heresy?  Ephesians 4:14, “that we should no longer be children, tossed to and fro and carried about by every wind of doctrine”

There are so many false teachings and Religions today that unless we are grounded in the Word of God we will fail in the end.  It states in Matthew 24:24, For there will rise up false Christs and false prophets, displaying wonderful signs and wonders, so as to deceive, were it possible, even God's own People.   If we don’t know the Bible, we will fall.

Here is an easy way to start a Bible reading habit.  Sign up somewhere to receive a verse-a-day in your email.  A great one is from http://www.klove.com/ .  If you sign up there they will send one verse-a-day to your email, it is very painless and it is a good way to start each day.  There are hundreds of other sites that will do the same things, the important thing is that you see and read a Bible verse each morning.

The motive behind a verse-a-day is that it will eventually lead your curiosity to read beyond a verse one day, to know the rest-of-the-story.   My hope is that you will find the time in your busy life to carve out a small piece of your day to devote to reading the Bible.  With the many ways you can access it now, especially with phone and tablet apps, there really is no excuse for not being on a reading plan.   The Bible app that we use has hundreds of reading plans.

As you go through your career you are always mindful of the many wonderful things on your resume.  As you go through this dress rehearsal for eternity it would look mighty impressive to have Bible reading on your resume when you stand before Jesus.
